Purpose

Economic and policy issues have the power to impact healthcare safety, quality, cost, and outcomes. In order for nurses to successfully address an issue, it is important to understand the background and impact of the issue. In some cases, healthcare concerns or issues may be addressed through informal grassroots efforts, or by formal policy, protocol, or legislation. Stakeholders impacted by the issue, along with ethical and legal implications surrounding the issue, are important to consider, as well.

The purpose of this assignment is to consider a selected policy issue and explore variables that influence that issue, along with implications for nursing practice. By better understanding the nature and impact of a policy issue, nurses can collaborate with stakeholders to improve health and health outcomes surrounding the area of concern.
