A thesis making a claim/argument on your chosen topic, which is “What marks student success?”
This is an argumentative research essay and I need 9 full pages not including title page and reference page.
Use APA format through out the whole paper.
This is the Argumentative Research Essay Task:
- A thesis making a claim/argument on your chosen topic, which is “What marks student success?” .
- A discussion proving that there are concerns/harm that need to be addressed.
- A discussion proving that a change/course of action/viewpoint should thus be adopted (your claim)
- A discussion proving that what you are suggesting will address the issue.
- A consideration and response to approaches/viewpoints other than your own and/or to objections to your approach.
This is how you break down the task:
- Give your uninformed reader some background information. This should include examples, explanation, and any necessary definitions.
- Develop your argument along argumentative lines by telling your reader about:current situation, harms from this situation, your solution or plan, why this plan is a reasonable one, how this plan solves for the harms you mentioned earlier.
- Use sources, examples, and explanation. You should be using 5-7 sources (I have attached the sources).
- Acknowledge drawbacks to this plan and, refute them or qualify your point accordingly.Be sure to offer at least one rebuttal to what someone who disagrees with you might say about some aspect of your argument.
- Use at least two quotations and two paraphrases, documented correctly, in the paper.
- Document all sources correctly using APA format.
- Have a references page.
Introduction paragraph:
- Hook the reader
- This could be a place for emotional appeal
- Consider why you are invested in the topic
- Set up why the reader should also be invested in the issue
- Provide general background info as needed
- But remember not to provide too much, you can use some in body paragraphs
- Set up the importance of the issue
- End the introduction with your thesis
- Thesis statement must make a claim, and must have a friction, consider using “although”, “while”, or “even if”.
- Begin the thesis with a claim about the topic, Next, preface it with one statement that opposes it. Begin statement with although, after your claim add a dependent that supports it
Body Paragraphs:
- Use TAXES method, T(Topic sentence) A(Assertion) E(Example) E(Explain) S(Significance), for the body paragraphs
Counterargument and Rebuttal Paragraph before conclusion:
- Be sure to have at least one counterargument and a rebuttal to it
- If a counterargument is pretty obvious, you must address it
- The last paragraph before your conclusion should be your counterargument and rebuttal paragraph
- Your counterargument should only be 1-3 sentences at the beginning of your paragraph
- You want to introduce the opposing view, but you don’t want to give it too much room
- Your rebuttal should be the rest of your paragraph
- Use TAXES method to develop your rebuttal
- Make sure your rebuttal is directly against the counterargument
Conclusion:
- Wrap up your argument
- Review key points without being too repetitious
- Assert/emphasize the importance of your position
- Consider circling back to your opening hook
- Don’t introduce new angle or arguments
Have a references page and use APA format.
