CeCe Maner RE: Discussion – Week 8COLLAPSEStrategies for Academic PortfoliosA professional portfolio showcases the nurse’s skills, achievements, and accomplishments. Moreover, a portfolio is an essential tool that helps to demonstrate professional accomplishment, and professional growth (Margaret Burns, 2018). A professional portfolio can be used as a self-promotion tool to show future employer or current employer competencies and accomplishments. Therefore, developing a portfolio should highlight the nurse’s education achievement, and growth and development. In addition, the professional portfolio should provide a source for historical information about one’s career (Shirley Bell, 2001). My first strategy in developing my professional is to use continuing medical education (CME) allowance every year to attend the American Nurses Nephrology Association conferences annually. At the end of theses conferences not only do I earned CMEs, but I get a certificate at the end to add to my portfolio. I currently work as a nephrology nurse practitioner and attending theses conferences annually allows me to actively show competencies and achievements in my specialty. My second strategy is to join professional organizations that support my interests. I am currently a member of ANNA, American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), and American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). This strategy is to help develop my talent, seek out opportunities as a speaker and contributor on various advisory boards within my specialty. Additionally, adding this information can demonstrate to potential employers the relevant and experiences of my background. My long-term goal as a nurse practitioner is to become a speaker or panelist at the conference at one or all these organizations talking about kidney disease. Having a strong professional relationship and a broad network of professional partners within these organizations can help me to develop and build relationship (McHugh Slater, 2018).
