Health Policy Paper:

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind, that although COVID-19 is a global issue, it has affected the United States of America more than any industrialized country in the world. With close to 6 million infections and currently close to 175,000 COVID-19 deaths, it is clear that United States was not prepared to handle such a pandemic. The expectation has been that because of existing health policies, such a pandemic would easily be prevented or controlled. So what went wrong? Review any of key legislations and discuss why it couldn’t effectively address the pandemic. Suggest what revisions ought to be in place to deal with the present and potential future pandemics.

You are required to write a 6-7 double-spaced paper excluding the title and reference pages on a health policy issue relating current health policy issues/challenges on ANY of the following major U.S healthcare legislations and relate to COVID-19.

(A) Medicaid. What are the current issues with Medicaid and how can they be resolved (select a few). Discuss Children’s Health Insurance Program in at least two states of your choice. What is the key difference in the two states in terms of dollars spent and health outcome of children in the states?

(B) Medicare: Several issues confront Medicare that cause several controversies. Select issues of your interest to develop a policy proposal.

(C) the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), (D)Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA), (E) Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA),(F) New healthcare Law under Trumps administration (G) any of the objectives/goal of Healthy People 2020 (H) any combination of A through H).

The paper focus should be on any significant and interesting controversial health policy issue surrounding the legislation of your choice. Use credible sources such as federal and or state government websites, scholarly journal articles and text books to articulate the issue or health problem you wish to focus. Essentially, you will need to demonstrate thoroughness by presenting information that is accurately paraphrased, summarized, and/or quoted.

A.References in APA format. The paper should include at least 3 relevant references of scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journals plus the class text book.
