Teacher feedback
Thank you for your submission. I appreciate the details in your assignment. You also included in-text citations in some sections of your paper. There are some sections that need more information, though. There is also a missing section in your paper. Please read my feedback interspersed in the body paragraphs. You will find my comments on the left side of this document.
This is the original assignment
Assume that you are the curriculum designer for a school district. The school board has requested that several teams develop proposals for new curricula to meet newly established state standards. You and your team must develop the first proposal to provide as a pilot or model for the other teams. You have to first identify a specific curriculum area not currently used in the school district that would greatly benefit the students in the district. Use the Internet or the Strayer Library as well as your textbook to develop a pilot curriculum for a specific discipline area such as reading, math, science or grades K–12 at a local school district.
Refer to the scenario for the three assignments. Build on the same pilot curriculum you identified in the Curriculum Inception assignment for this assignment.
Instructions: Curriculum Foundations
Write a 6–7page paper in which you:
- Summarize the following aspects of the Curriculum Inception assignment: (a) Describe the specific curriculum area and grade level or levels for the pilot curriculum. (b) Provide four core instructional goals for the curriculum.
- Describe the approach to curriculum development (that is, behavior, systems, humanistic) you will use to shape curriculum design, providing a rationale for your selected approach that is consistent with the core instructional goals of the planned curriculum.
- Describe the philosophical/theoretical approach to curriculum development (for example, idealism or realism) you will use to shape the curriculum design, providing a rationale for your selected philosophy that is consistent with the core instructional goals of the planned curriculum.
- Describe the psychological motivational approach to curriculum development you will use to shape the curriculum design, providing a rationale for your selected approach that is consistent with the core instructional goals of the planned curriculum.
- Discuss one cultural influence that has the greatest impact on the school district and provide a rationale for the impact it has on the district.
- Recommend at least one effective way to integrate the cultural influence into the planned curriculum that is consistent with the core instructional goals of the planned curriculum.
- Develop a strategy for incorporating critical thinking skills (appropriate to grade level) into the planned curriculum using Bloom’s Taxonomy of cognitive objectives.
- Provide a rationale for your strategy that is consistent with the core instructional goals of the planned curriculum. (Note: A brief description of Bloom’s Taxonomy may be found at The Center for Teaching and Learning.)
- Use at least six relevant, scholarly references published in the last seven years (that is, three new references in addition to the three identified in the Curriculum Inception assignment). (Note: Wikipedia and other nongovernment websites do not qualify as scholarly resources. Review the supplementary readings list on the first page of the course guide for possible references.)

One learning objective about the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy I want teachers to apply in the classroom is “Understanding” the goal of reading comprehension is to retain what you have read and be able to summarize, infer and predict certain aspects of the story and ultimately answer questions around the story. Another learning objective around Blooms Taxonomy I want my teachers to apply in the classroom is Applying, being able to articulate what they have learned and being able to present or display what they have learned by writing or discussing the topic in depth. The last learning objective about the use of Blooms Taxonomy I want my teachers to apply in the classroom is Evaluating, my students are preparing for the science fair, this is one of the best ways to teach this concept, allowing them to form a hypothesis and research information to validate it is what this factual and what is not. Other good examples around this level are to make a judgment regarding a ethical dilemma this will involve some higher order thinking but with the correct back teaching this is attainable. These three are based around what we are already doing in the classroom, applying these principles are a good way to design a successful track for students.

From the e-Activity, discuss the adoption of Common Core Standards or state department movement away from Common Core Standards to state issued curriculum standards. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of staying with common core standards or moving to a state department issued curriculum to meet the needs of learners.*
(*Note: This is a required discussion.)
Adopting Common Core standards and moving away from those standards to adopt state issued curriculum standards is ideal and is a huge advantage for students in my opinion because students academic performance greatly varies from state to state, this needs to be one of the first things considered when introducing a curriculum, the students needs to be tested and then the data needs to be compared state to state before making the decision to adopt common core over state issued curriculum standards.
“A standard specifically describes what students should understand and be able to do.” (Kendall) adopting common core standards is almost doing the opposite of that. Children should be measured by what they know and not what a broad curriculum thinks they should know. Adopting state standards gives every child the opportunity to do well because we will be teaching based off of observations and collected data that shoes that students preform differently state to state.

ELAGSE3L1a. Explain the function of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs in general and their functions in particular sentences.
In my school/district students struggle with this the most having this mastered will allow us to raise reading scores.
ELAGSE1RF1: Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print. a. Recognize the distinguishing features of a sentence (e.g., first word, capitalization, ending punctuation).
ELAGSE1RF2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). a. Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words. b. Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends. c. Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in spoken single-syllable words. d. Segment spoken single-syllable words into their complete sequence of individual sounds (phonemes).
Students in my district struggle with phonemic awareness Im not sure if it is because this is the deep south so many of the sounds are altered so the children are trained not to recognize them or if there is truly a struggle with phonemic awareness

The teachers and students in the classroom are continually using technology to communicate and learn across the world. Students would be able to explore the natural world by problems and challenges of understanding their reading subjects. Technology has become such a fixture in both industries. Students should be introduced to technology at an early age in order to understand how to use it. Personalized and self-paced exercises intrinsically motivate students and empower them to take steps to learn more.
One way to integrate the technology into the classroom would be E-Learning and Online Courses. WebQuests, E-Learning, and Online courses help the new process to develop and learn about the emerging educational technologies for student success. Right now, COVID- 19 has shut down schools across the world. Over 3 billion children are out of the classroom. Some are wanting a fora return date on going back there.
With e-learning and online course, the class has played a big part in our children’s lives in society. The students can do their traditional classroom setting. They can learn it at their own pace, going back and re-reading through the concept of structure engaging to the collaboration tools. The secondary way to work with technology would be video and Multimedia Instruction. The students and teachers can write down information from slide to slide. They can instruct strategies different styles of learning objectives, evaluate and select the best works in the classroom.

When I first read this statement, I was immediately against it. But, after I started thinking about it and doing some research, I have changed my mind. I think overall, teacher salaries need to be increased, but to retain and obtain quality teachers, they should be rewarded for increases in student achievement.
According to Allegretto and Mishel, teacher salaries have declined for several decades as compared to other jobs (1). They also show that in 2017, teachers on average make 18.7% less than comparable workers. This percentage has increased since 1979 by 13.2%. However, if you average in benefits, the wage discrepancy goes down from 18.7% to 11.1% (1).
Teachers work hard and often long hours. I do not know if these reported wage discrepancies include the time teachers put in at home grading and making lesson plans. I think teacher’s base pay should increase across the board. I hear too many instances where teachers have to pay for supplies out of their own pocket and how they can hardly afford that.
Then, once a decant base pay is established, a bonus system based on merit can be implemented. Many other jobs have a bonus system in place so I do not see what we cannot have one for teachers. Also, many schools have a system where seniority plays a key role in salary, it may be better to not put as much emphasis on seniority as on accomplishments. There could be a tiered structure for teaching positions. I previously worked at a company where yearly performance was tied to monetary bonuses and or a raise, or a promotion that included a substantial raise. The levels were assistant, associate, engineer, senior, and principal. I think a system like this for teachers tied to performance would work. Teachers with seniority would theoretically be paid more, but only have they have shown they can produce results.
