The National Labor Relations Board website has a lot of great information. I have never been to this website and never heard of this department. Most employees in the private sector are covered under the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.). It seems to be very beneficial for all roles of those who participate in private employment (employees, human resources, employers, businesses, unions, etc.) I can tell because according to the Small Business Association, in the United States, small enterprises account for 99.9% of all firms. America's small businesses are thriving. 47.1% of employees in the private sector (61 million). 40.3% of the payroll in the private sector (U.S. Small Business Administration, 2020). These are the individuals potentially protected and served by the NLRB and these stats are from 2020. Fairly certain the number of people employed privately has increased.
The Board is still significant because there is information regarding the NLRB and its involvement in social media and protection of employee rights in their use and communication within it. As we all discussed last week, this is a big issue in our company's lives now.
At the beginning of the year the U.S. Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding enhancing the agencies' relationship and detailing protocols on information-sharing, joint investigations and enforcement activity, as well as training, education, and community outreach. The agreement is part of the agencies' attempt to improve the enforcement of the laws they administer and reinforces their commitment to ensure employees' rights and protections. Workers will be able to take collective action to improve their working circumstances without fear of punishment as a result of the cooperation. Through greater community outreach, shared compliance materials, collaborative presentations, and training events, the agencies will use the relationship to raise public understanding of the laws enforced by the Wage and Hour Division and the NLRB. The cooperative agreement will support shared aims such as protecting workers who exercise their workplace rights and informing companies about their legal obligations under federal legislation (Department of Labor-US, 2022).

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) was founded in 1935 in order to protect worker's freedom of association so they can form collective bargaining units like labor unions (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.). Apparently the focus of the NLRB is on private sector organizations to promote workers' freedom to pursue better working conditions (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.). Further, the purpose of the NLRB is to prevent workers from having a fear of retaliation as they seek these better working conditions (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.).
The benefits of the organization appear to be to provide a government-sponsored way of protecting workers against unhealthy management practices that prevent collective bargaining. This is something that workers apparently didn't have available to them prior to 1935.
Whether the National Labor Relations board is still relevant can be assessed by looking at the volume of cases the board is pursuing. If workers are using the NLRB a lot, then it implies that there are still situations where employers may need to be held accountable for their limitations on employee freedoms to seek better working conditions.
There is a cases section on the site where you can see cases under the board's review and the decisions of judges (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.). There are nine pages of cases at 20 cases per page if you go back to only 2020. According to National Labor Relations Board (n.d.), most of the cases have been filed by individuals claiming employers have acted inappropriately in areas under the National Labor Relations Board's purview. Given the fact that employees are raising this volume of complaints against their employers, I would argue that the NLRB is still a relevant force today.

According to the National Labor Relations website, the agency provides important and relevant information, offering tools and tips to employees and employers in knowing and understanding their rights. The National Labor Relations Act was created in 1935 to protect the rights of employees and employers, whether the workplace is unionized or non-unionized (National Labor Relations Board, n.d.). Especially for a nonunion workplace and with other workplaces that are classified as hire and fire at will, according to (Mello 2019), most employees in the United States receive very limited protection against unfair treatment at work, and the reason is the fact that the doctrine of “employment-at-will” is applied to the employment relationship (Section 7-1). There are many laws to protect employees in the workplace, but having another agency such as the National Labor Relations, which was created for this purpose is an agency is of great relevance to employees. You can seek advice if they feel mistreated but fear of being fired. The website offers a wealth of pertinent information, such as some of the things an employer cannot do. It also reported that in Fiscal 2021 they had cases total of 16,719 filed. This showed that the agency is still relevant, and employees use them to solve their issues.
