Coaching Practice Assignment
Order Instructions
This Coaching Practice Assignment demonstrates the use of coaching tools and/or current course topics by a “practicing coach” (student). Complete the assignment either with a live session or through a recording (audio or video). If you chose to practice your coaching skills live, contact the instructor to set up the session. If you prefer to record a practice session with a classmate or another volunteer, you will provide a 10-15-minute recording of your coaching session and upload* for the instructor to review.
Prior to the session, remember to select a coaching topic (or topics) to address during the session that relates to current content in the course (weeks 1-4).
As a follow-up reflection to this coaching practice session—whether live or recorded—submit a 1-2-page (double-spaced) reflection (no particular format) that discusses your coaching strengths and/or needed improvements as seen in the session.
How to set up a live session with your instructor:
1. Set up the “live” session with your instructor.
2. Complete the live coaching session and be prepared to reflect on your strengths and areas of improvement at the end of the session (you will still need to submit a self-reflection paper).
3. Receive immediate feedback from instructor. At the instructor’s discretion, the live feedback from the instructor may constitute as fulfilling the 1-2-page self-reflection.
How to conduct a recorded session:
1. Ask a volunteer to act as your client (can be a classmate) and record a 10-15 minute audio/video of the session.
2. Complete a 1-2-page self-reflection on your strengths and weaknesses (see self-reflection item in rubric).
3. Submit both the taped session and the reflection paper in Assignments.
