DQ 7.2.5 OPPOSITION & BIASES: PROPOSAL:
Class,
We’ve discussed costs and benefits, as well as desired results, costs, and benefits of a proposal. We also looked at the importance of the introduction. Part of your ability to justify your proposal is to understand your audience’s fears, intolerances, belief and social systems, and/or skepticisms (opposition and biases). Some audience members will be hostile and have strong reasons to counter your proposal; others might not agree with certain parts of your proposal and yet others will be neutral on the topic. Consider at least two solid challenges to your planned proposal that might be asked by one of these audience members. Consider what types of fallacies your opposition and your response might fall into like a hasty generalization or an either/or situation, for example and how to avoid that situation in your writing. Counter the challenges you presented from opposition without making the opposition angry, hurt, or argumentative in no more than two short paragraphs (5 or 6 sentences each) and without committing a logical fallacy. How will you approach a negative situation with a positive attitude? Explain. Be sure to support your response.
