Summary of strengths:
Communication is one of my core strengths as evidenced by my excellent verbal and written communication skills. This skill helps me to communicate with different groups in the health care setting such as patients, nurses, and doctors, in a way that provides a ground for understanding the current situation. This strength will specifically help me to explain various issues to patients such as their diagnoses or test results, and how their treatment plans can be developed (Anselmo-Witzel et al., 2017). Empathy is also one of my other strengths which comes in handy especially as I interact with patients. This strength helps me to help patients and their families in coping with their problems. The strength is also important because it can assist in comprehending and sharing the feelings of the patient and their loved ones, hence working towards helping them to achieve optimal health outcomes (Anselmo-Witzel et al., 2017). Attention to detail is the other strength. Nurses interact with very many patients on a typical day and the interaction can crossover to other nurses, physicians, and hospital staff. Attention to detail as strength will help me to ensure that every piece of information is valid in terms of its accuracy and reliability (Dahinten et al., 2016). This strength can be useful for creating effective treatment plans for patients. The strengths can also inspire positive care quality when it is placed on the frontline of providing care. Flexibility is one of my strengths and it is a skill that every night should possess (Dahinten et al., 2016). The day-to-day work activities in a nursing environment change rapidly and flexibility enables a nurse to adapt quickly. As a strength, flexibility helps me in managing changes in the healthcare environment efficiently and effectively (Dahinten et al., 2016). |
Opportunities for growth:
Conducting Research This is an opportunity for me to gain knowledge regarding my areas of improvement. Conducting research will enable me to obtain information from evidence-based research that can be instrumental in driving me towards my desired clinical goals (Santillan-Garcia et al., 2020). Through conducting research, I will be able to advance my knowledge and skills in specific areas of weaknesses by using evidence-based strategies to address these areas. Learning new skills Working in a practical environment will provide an opportunity where I will be able to develop my skills in various ways such as being assigned to various specialties. This means that without limiting myself to routines and procedures confined in my area of specialty, I will be able to learn new skills and enhance my clinical knowledge as I perform the assigned duties (Santillan-Garcia et al., 2020). Opportunity for collaboration Working in an environment with different members will provide an opportunity for interprofessional collaboration since nursing is not an isolated practice (Kurth et al., 2016). Collaboration with other members will enable me to gain knowledge in various ways, such as how to understand and respond to the needs of the client (Kwok et al., 2016). Advice and guidance from other members will be instrumental in advancing my knowledge for including patient care. |
Now, write three to four (3–4) possible goals and objectives for this practicum experience. Ensure that they follow the SMART Strategy, as described in the Learning Resources.
1. Goal: To enhance skills in psychotherapeutic treatment planning a. Objective: To effectively identify therapeutic modalities concepts. b. Objective: To identify effective evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. c. Objective: To develop a relevant and effective plan of care for clients based on their age. 2. Goal: To enhance skills in selecting and implementing screening instruments and interpreting results. a. Objective: To develop skills for implementing screening instruments effectively and efficiently. b. Objective: To develop skills for accurately interpreting results for the screening instruments. c. Objective: To accurately document recommendations for psychotherapy consultations based on the interpreted results. 3. Goal: To enhance professional skills. a. Objective: To work in collaboration with other professional teams for improving clinical practice. b. Objective: To organize and resolve various ethical and legal dilemmas. c. Objective: To maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients. |
Conclusion
The development of the goals and objectives is important because it will help by providing a clear direction for progress. The developed goals and objectives will also be important in evaluating personal clinical performance. The goals and objectives are developed based on the strengths and opportunities for growth. They are designed to maximize the strength and opportunities while minimizing any areas of weaknesses. Once followed to the latter, the clinical self-assessment and developed goals and objectives will be essential in fostering educational and clinical improvements.
