Cultural competence is defined as “having the knowledge, understanding, and skills about a diverse cultural group that allows the health care provider to provide acceptable care” (Giger et al., 2007). Nursing theorist, Madeleine Leininger, believed that optimal nursing care requires an understanding of a person’s beliefs and values. This week’s assignment is an opportunity to connect how cultural care theory and the evidence surrounding cultural competence could guide your future practice.
Write a 700-word paper in which you do the following:
Provide an overview of cultural care theory.
Discuss the evidence surrounding cultural competence.
Explain how you will incorporate that evidence into your future practice as an advanced practice nurse.
