Forgiveness
Forgiveness
Introduction
Aspiring leaders have to learn to deal with people on levels that bring forth emotion. Forgiveness tends to be an emotion that at times is ignored. The workplace is a sensitive space to be in confrontations and then made to forgive whatever situation caused the rift. Forgiveness functions as a lubricant to the friction that occurs during the natural course of human interaction (Hess, 2006, p.172). It’s normal to deal with conflict as a leader, it’s how the resolution leads to genuine forgiveness that’s the tough part. Leaders will always have tribulation; it is facing those tribulations head-on that proves strong management and the will to continue when the road looks dark.
Reflecting on Forgiveness
Confrontation among leaders can result in discourse within an organization’s structure. John and Sam are prime examples of the devil trying to destroy what will soon become a great alliance. Conflict management has to be one of the most difficult situations to handle in any organization especially when dealing with many different personalities. Conflict management is the principle that all conflicts cannot be resolved but learning how to manage conflicts can decrease the odds of nonproductive escalation (Popovic & Hocenski, 2009). People are not always aware of their own behavior, or perhaps they are aware of their behavior, but will not easily admit it. Feedback is a good way to confront someone on their (disturbing) behavior (Mulder, P. 2017). When you put two or more individuals together in a workplace, relationships are built, and interpersonal communication gets established. At some point, the dueling parties will need one another to accomplish goals for the greater good. Increasing self-efficacy in new and ongoing situations, such as bridging individual differences, addressing conflict, and functioning comfortably in a group, enhances effectiveness (Bumann & Younkin, 2012). Leadership should be able to learn how to manage conflicts so that they increase the productivity of the organization. Conflict management is derived from the premise that not all conflicts can be resolved (Popovic & Hocenski, 2009).
The Holy Bible holds many truths about life, and how to navigate the world. The Bible can also be a reference we all use in business to exhibit the right ethical things to do and how to treat and love others. A verse that exhibits what Godly communication stands for is from Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” This verse explains how we interact with people. Nothing unwholesome nor negative should leave our mouths, but only words of encouragement and positivity. In business, we come across those who may not share our faith-filled views, and therefore cut their employees down not realizing the power that their words may have on the employee’s spirits and overall morale. We have all been in situations where words have deeply affected our mindsets, but according to this scripture, we cast away those hurtful words and fill our mouths with uplifting reinforcement.
Conclusion
Leaders should learn skills for resolving conflicts in the work environment because conflict will exist. Forgiveness doesn’t come easily unless the Godly emotion of love despite the hurt shines through. In order to forgive, you need to let go of your anger and desire for revenge. Recognize that you cannot forgive without the strength of God. When you are asked by God to do something, He gives you the strength and power to succeed at it.
