Social Change
Part 1: Introduction
My topic of study is focused on teacher education on how the brain learns to best support students in learning. If teachers know how a brain matures, functions under stress and ways to create an environment or learning experience for the brain to thrive with realistic learning expectations.
-
Write a one page background statement that includes:
-
What you have learned about social change as a social issue.
-
What you have learned about social change as a research problem and how the implications for social change refer to how the findings of your study may lead to positive social change. Keep the significance within the frame of the study purpose. Support your insights with academic citations (at least 5) from the Learning Resources below.
-
Describe the gap that your study will address.
-
From the gap, create a brief purpose statement that is aligned with the following research question: What is the meaning of social change for Walden graduate students?
Background info: There are several problems with teachers not knowing about brain development and how it learns: Students are not retaining information or learning. There are behavioral problems and higher levels of student expulsions even among children in preschool. Many of these behaviors arise among students because their brains are stressed and being required to function outside of the brain’s maturation level.
My topic of study is to explore teachers awareness and understanding of how the brain functions and learns and their perceptions of how their teaching practices support how the student brain learns.
There is a gap in practice in US schools as a majority of fully credentialed teachers have no formal education in how the brain learns.
