ASSIGNMENT DIRECTIONS:

• Review chapter 15 on proposal/solution claims in our textbook.
• Write a problem-based claim (also known as a claim of policy), recommending what should be done (providing a solution) to the problem you have previously discussed in your Problem Claim Paper.
• Your Solutions paper should smoothly incorporate your previous claims, including previous research material (evidence), although your claim (thesis) will need to be modified to focus on the solution. 
• For this final argumentative essay, you will want to make sure to address the counter argument in your paper. 
• Essentially, your proposal should define the problem; present your solution; argue your proposal is feasible, and conclude with a specific call for action.
• As with all argumentative essays in this course, you must provide relevant and sufficient evidence to back your own original points.
• You must use MLA format to properly document your sources. This includes proper in-text citations and a complete Works Cited to avoid unintentional plagiarism.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DEMONSTRATE MASTERY OF THESE SKILLS IN THE FINAL PAPER.
• The tone of your essay should be formal, excluding conversational language, use of “you,” and sparing use of “I.”

**As you develop your thesis for this claim, you should think carefully about the warrant and your audience: who should do what? 

• Successfully support your primary proposal policy claim (your thesis) through secondary claims (your supportive, points and paragraphs) including evidence in the form of documented research (quotes and paraphrases).
• Successfully connect (link) your ideasyour secondary claims to your primary claim. Establish the relationship between your supporting points and your primary claim. Explain how your supporting points and paragraphs truly support your primary claim.
• Successfully address challenges to your argument through the direct address of the counter-argument and by avoiding vague, unspecific language throughout your essay.
• Successfully avoid fallacies.
• Successfully select the appropriate tone, reasons, and evidence to make convincing appeals (pathos, logos, and ethos) to your audience.
• Successfully select and integrate research material with your own ideas to provide reasons with evidence to advance your thesis. **This includes smoothly blending or introducing quotes or paraphrases with your own sentences.
• Successfully demonstrate mastery of MLA format and documentation to avoid plagiarism.

Suggestions:

• Make sure your writer’s voice is clear and distinct. The introductory and conclusion paragraphs are great places to establish your voice and tone of your policy claim. Think about how you might appeal to pathos and ethos. When establishing your supportive points, assert your own voice by using your own language. Use evidence only as backing, but remember to explain all evidence (quotes and paraphrases) to your readers so that they can fully appreciate the significance of the included research. Finally, don’t forget transitional phrases or clauses at the paragraph level to help create smooth continuity (flow) in readability.
