This four-five page essay should be typed in Times New Roman 12 pt. font and must conform to MLA Formatting Requirements. It should be double-spaced and have standard one-inch margins. Your name, professors name, class, and due date should be placed in the upper left-hand corner of the first page. Your last name and page number should be place in the upper right hand corner of every page.

• If you would like to receive edits/marks, you must save & submit the Term Paper as a PDF. If you do not want marks, then submit the essay as a standard Word document and I will simply apply a letter grade and provide a corresponding rubric.

The essays introductory paragraph should contain a hook, clearly stated points of development, and a concise thesis. There should be body paragraphs, each with a topic sentence that limits the subject to be covered. In the conclusion, students should draw connections between their main points of argument.

Students must use at least FIVE SOURCES, and they must have proper MLA documentation for their sources. Cite Your Sources. You must have both Parenthetical citations and a corresponding Works Cited page.

**Keep in mind, a term paper that does not properly cite sources according to MLA source documentation will not receive a passing grade.

TOPICS:  Your essay must be based on one of the stories that we have read for this class. (choose 1 topic)

• Write about how setting functions as a kind of character in one of the stories. Do the landscape, time period, and/or weather act as the antagonist in the story?

• Choose a story and write an essay exploring how the protagonist evolves over the course of the story, providing evidence from the story to back up your argument.

• From any of the stories, select an object, or place, or action that seems clearly symbolic. Explain the symbolism behind what youve chosen. You may want to choose a symbol that recurs over the course of the story, and try to determine the importance of the symbol.

• Select a character from one of the stories and analyze this character by relating him or her to a significant object (symbol) in the story. Discuss the characters personality by showing how the symbol reflects it.

• Analyze and interpret the titles relevance from one of the stories? How is the title referenced in the story? How does the title affect the reading or understanding of the story?

• You can examine some aspect of history or biography and consider its relationship to one of the stories.

• You can examine three literary elements in one of the stories, such as, but not limited to, irony, imagery, style , tone, language, plot, setting, symbolism, theme, point of view, figurative language, character development, or the use of flashbacks. How are these techniques employed and/or contribute to the story?

• Choose a minor character to analyze. Find three personality traits which distinguish this character. You need to show the relevance of this characters role to the major theme.
