Consider the following goals and objectives from your Practicum Experience Plan.

Objective 1: At the end of this practicum rotation, I will be able to assign an appropriate ICD10 code for billing and utilize DSM-5 criteria to justify diagnosis of psychiatric patients across life span without supervision.

• Planned Activities: The activities I plan to engage in to achieve this objective include:

• Using the class study materials, including DSM-5 manual, peer reviewed articles, and other textbooks to study and master skills needed to arrive at correct coding and billing for services rendered to patients

• Attend practicum as scheduled and follow my clinical preceptor’s instructions and guidance to gain skills in coding and billing for services.

• Read professional publications and other relevant materials to help me understand the coding system.

• PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed: The outcome of learning the coding and billing system will help me build skills that will enhance accurate billing for insurance reimbursement for services rendered, using ICD10 coding system.

Objective 2: At the end of the tenth week of this practicum rotation, I will be able to make an appropriate and independent differential diagnosis based on a patient’s presenting symptoms without supervision.

• Planned Activities: The Activities I plan to do to achieve this objective include:

• Using class study materials, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria manual, class instructor’s notes and guidance to study and acquire skills needed to make accurate diagnosis of patients presenting with psychiatric disorders

• Study my clinical site’s method of making accurate diagnosis and following my practicum preceptor’s guidance to gain skills in making differential diagnosis based on patients’ signs and symptoms, using DSM-5 diagnostic manual.

• Use relevant professional publications and manuals to update myself on new diagnostic tools and correct interpretation thereof.

• PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed: The knowledge gained from the above activities will enable me to acquire advanced skills and expertise in making appropriate diagnosis of psychiatric patients.

Objective 3: By the 10th week of this clinical rotation, I plan to be able to make an independent individualized patient care plan appropriate for the age of each patient without my preceptor’s supervision.

• Planned Activities: The activities to achieve this objective include:

• Performing comprehensive assessment of individual patient using their case presentation

• Review patient’s medical and psychiatric records to gain insight into history of presenting illness

• Work closely with my clinical preceptor and follow the facilities policies to perform care of the patients

• Document accurately and make use of available diagnostic tools to arrive at accurate diagnosis upon which the plan of care of individual patient is based.

• Explain the degree to which you achieved each during the practicum experience.
