The core of the task is to provide evidence of significant pressure on House of Fraser (HoF)that are driving change from TWO of the drivers covered in the module. The two drivers must come from this list:

o You are required to demonstrate how your two drivers are impacting on the company and contributing to its current issues. You must identify why the company is under pressure to change, providing evidence for the two drivers you have chosen and evaluating the nature of the pressures exerted by the drivers on House of Fraser.

o I would suggest that you look at social change as a relevant driver. Here there is evidence that seems to lie with changing purchasing habits; the move to internet shopping. There is considerable evidence of this in the literature, evidence of the impact of on-line shopping on HoF in particular (may not be much available) and high street retailing in general (lots of evidence available here). We are interested in proof that there is an issue, and that proof should be subjected to some degree of critical review. Is the evidence strong, are there alternative views?
The choice of a second driver is more difficult, but it is difficult to see how any identifiable change in demographics would have such a major impact on a high street organisation, with stores spread throughout the country. An alternative here might be the issue of the huge differential in taxes and rent paid by high street stores and internet organisations. This could be considered to be an ethical issue with governments appearing to treat the two different kinds of organisations differently giving unfair advantage to the internet. Much has been written about this issue, not necessarily specific to HoF but certainly to high street shopping in general.
You must identify why the company is in trouble, providing evidence for the two drivers you have chosen and evaluating the nature of the pressures exerted by the drivers. This must be the major part of your submission and the focus of your work.
Having identified two relevant drivers you are then required to analyse and evaluate how the company has responded to each driver. To what extent have their responses been effective? Again, the evaluation needs to be fully focused on your two chosen drivers.
The third part of the assignment then requires that, based on your evaluation of the company’s responses, you provide recommendations for how the company could enhance those responses and, hopefully, achieve a better outcome.
