Students,
For this class, you will be writing an Interdisciplinary Research Paper. The topic of your research is assigned, but each of you will address the topic in a unique way, using two of your areas of concentration. I ask you to use your areas of concentration because these are the disciplines in which you have some knowledge and expertise. There are very few instances where your areas of concentration cannot be used. To use a discipline outside your areas of study, you must have the permission of the Instructor.
This semester you may choose between three topics, Human Trafficking, Fresh Water Issues, or a Constitutional Interpretation issue. By choosing the same topic you started in INTS 2310 you will advance your understanding of how to create a literature review. You will not submit the same paper, however, you may build upon the paper you wrote for that class. Attached is a ‘white paper’ on each of the topics. A white paper is a short report that helps you to have a better understanding of a topic. This paper will give you some background information about the topic and current debates about the issue. Hopefully, it will also help you to discover ways to best address the topic this semester.
From an interdisciplinary perspective, investigate some of the issues surrounding one of the three topics listed. For this paper, you should learn what the research from your areas of study has developed about this topic. Use both the perspective that your concentration has about the topic as well as how research from your concentration could influence the future of that complex problem and help provide a more useful perspective.
Attached are the Research Topic White Papers.
Your final paper should demonstrate your ability to use the interdisciplinary research methods you have learned this semester, to write an interdisciplinary research paper. If you enrolled in INTS 2310 during or after Fall 2019, you should build on the paper you started in INTS 2310. If not, then you should write your paper on one of the topics provided in this module, in Week 1, and in the Final Paper tab. White papers on each of those topics are provided.
Your final paper should reflect the Interdisciplinary Research Process (IRP) as presented in the textbook (Repko & Szostak, 2021).

- Draw on at least two different disciplinary perspectives
- Have a clearly stated interdisciplinary research question

- Your final paper should incorporate the feedback provided by your fellow students and your instructor on the assignments and discussions turned in throughout the term.
