In this short paper you will be writing a rhetorical analysis on Donald Trumps presidential inauguration speech. Make sure to first watch the video on the (3) main parts of rhetorical analyses. (Start at 2:33)

You will need to write 1-2 paragraphs on each of the (3) parts of a rhetorical analysis (do not exceed 5 total paragraphs).

1.  Explain the texts rhetorical situation

This needs to have depth. Not just its an inauguration. Rather, who all is he speaking to? What kind of campaign led to this speech? What were the key campaign promises Trump made in his election run? Who were his voters? Who were his critics? Etc. 

2.  Describe the choices made by the texts composer/composition

What order are the points presented? When is it softer and louder? Where does it choose emotion or logic to persuade, what are the voice qualities, etc.?

3.  Describe the effects of the choices. Or, put another way, describe how effective the speech was for its intended audience(s).   

Remember to define the intended audience(s) and justify your comments.

The best papers will also note where key rhetorical devices are used, including the different innuendos, connotations, euphemisms, dysphemisms, proof surrogates, etc.
