Q2
The following Case Study comes from Chapter 8 of your textbook:
LeAnn works as a surgical assistant in an outpatient surgery center. Near the end of each week, the surgery schedule for the next week is entered in the office computer, then one copy is printed and made available to all those employees affected by posting it in the employee break room. Employees may not take copies of the surgery schedule home, because it contains patients’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, types of surgery to be performed, insurance information, and patient ID numbers. LeAnn takes a photo of the schedule with her smartphone. A nurse who works with LeAnn has cautioned her about the practice, but LeAnn sees no problem with it, and says it saves her time that others spend handwriting notes. Are there legal and/or ethical problems with this practice, either from the standpoint of the way the schedule is posted, or from the standpoint of LeAnn’s practice of taking a photo with her smartphone?

Position 1: Outsourcing (Green)
VS
Position 2: Insourcing (Red)
This is a juxtaposition Discussion question. Choose a side. If you choose the green side, find material to support your response…but you also must find a way to resolve the counter-side on RED. If you choose the red side, find sources to help support your position…but you also must resolve the counter-side on GREEN.

However, some of these businesses have reversed course and are now insourcing these goods and services. Do you agree that this course reversal may be justified? Which position do you take: Insourcing or Outsourcing?

Q4 (dee)
Before you begin, complete these steps:
Search the internet for a source that explains a specific incident where a typography error caused problems. This incident does not need to focus on technology and can be from any time in the past. Do not choose a journal article or book. If you need help finding a suitable source, ask your instructor early in the unit.
Read about the formal memo format in the unit reading PDF.
For the initial post:
Write a memo as if you were the boss of the person or group that committed the writing error.
Start with the “address block.” If your source does not provide names, make one up, but use your own name as the person sending the memo.
For the memo body, write at least 100 words about all of the following:
What happened.
What issues it caused.
Why it is important to proofread carefully — give at least two reasons.
What mandates for future written work you are setting to avoid similar issues.
Work to temper word choice; the memo is not meant to punish but to explain and set new rules.
At the bottom of the post, provide the full URL (not a text link) of the source.
Use your memo subject line as the initial post subject line.
For responses to others, you may focus on a classmate’s chosen incident, offer additional reasons for proofreading, or suggest other mandates for future work. Personal experiences related to the kind of incident are also welcome.
