Leadership, Management, and Contemporary Issues NURS 6600 Week 7 Assignment
NURS 6600 Week 7 Assignment: Practicum Experience Journal Entry 2 (Journal Assignment 2) + Time Log
Assignment Overview
This week, you complete and submit your second journal entry (Journal Entry 2). The practicum journal provides an opportunity to reflect on your experiences, apply concepts and theories from your program of study (particularly leadership, management, and contemporary issues in nursing), and analyze real-world situations observed during your practicum.
Journal entries are required in Weeks 3, 7, and 11. You must submit a journal entry each assigned week, even if you were not on-site that week. If you were not on-site, reflect on experiences from any previous weeks of the course.
To Prepare / Instructions
In your saved version of the NURS 6600 Practicum Journal document, do the following for Journal Entry 2:
Write a 250- to 300-word journal entry (identified as Journal Entry 2) in which you address each of the following:
Issue / Problem, Issue, or Situation: Describe a problem, issue, or situation that you have observed during your Practicum Experience (no more than a half page).
Review of the Literature / Analysis: Using no fewer than three peer-reviewed sources of evidence, analyze what you have observed within the context of your specialty (Leadership, Management, and Contemporary Issues / Nurse Executive role) using appropriate concepts, principles, and theories. Give special attention to observed events that vary from scholarly literature.
How the Situation Was Handled: Explain how the problem, situation, or issue was handled in a manner that is consistent with the theory, concepts, and principles detailed in the evidence and in a manner that is inconsistent with them.
Evidence-Based Plan: Given the various evidence-based approaches that can be used in handling the problem, situation, or issue, formulate a plan for approaching the matter differently (i.e., an alternative approach supported by evidence).
Important Notes:
Place the references for this journal entry immediately after the content of Journal Entry 2 (use APA style).
Begin each journal entry on a new page.
The journal should demonstrate critical reflection, integration of course concepts, and application to your leadership practicum setting.
Some terms may include a specific thematic focus (e.g., role of leaders in crisis/disaster situations or contemporary issues), but the core structure above is standard.
Time Log Submission
Submit your updated Practicum Time Log (documenting hours completed to date) via Meditrek.
Hours are reviewed by the instructor in Weeks 3, 7, and 11. Continue working toward the total 144 practicum hours requirement.
Submission and Due Date
Submit your Journal Entry 2 and Time Log by Day 7 of Week 7 (usually Sunday by 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
Use SafeAssign for the journal submission.
This assignment is typically worth 100 points (journal) + 100 points (time log), as part of the course grading.
Grading Criteria (based on the rubric in the course):
Depth and specificity of description and analysis (30 points for literature review/analysis).
Clear connection between observed practice and scholarly evidence, including consistencies/inconsistencies.
Quality of the proposed alternative plan.
APA formatting, scholarly writing, and minimum of 3 peer-reviewed sources.
Accurate and timely time log documentation.
These instructions are compiled directly from official NURS 6600 course documents, the Practicum Journal template, syllabus excerpts, and student-shared assignment guidelines across multiple terms. The core requirements (250–300 words per entry, minimum 3 peer-reviewed sources, analysis of consistency/inconsistency, and alternative plan) remain consistent.
Important: Always check your specific Walden Canvas course shell under Week 7 > Assignments for the exact prompt, the current NURS 6600 Practicum Journal template/document, the detailed rubric, and any instructor-specific modifications (e.g., thematic focus or additional requirements). Some sections may reference contemporary leadership issues relevant to your practicum site.
