OVERVIEW:
This assignment will include components on emotional, moral, and identity development and their respective components as children and
adolescents develop. As you learn about these developmental areas, you will also understand some challenges faced by youth. Supporting children
and adolescents in their growth, exploration, and development within the context of family, peer, and societal influences can contribute to the
development of socio-emotional development and self-understanding. Emotional and moral development have an impact on decision-making and
will pose difficulties, which human services professionals can aid in navigating.
SCENARIO:
In this assignment, you are a human services professional who counsels students in a high school. You are working with your co-workers in helping
Alex, a 14-year-old, who attends a diverse high school. Alex identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. Alex is an only child who lives in
a two-parent, traditional home. Alex’s family is supportive and the family is close knit. Alex faces challenges related to self-identity and emotional
health.
After meeting with Alex, you decide to research information to better serve Alex and obtain background information on child and adolescent
development in the following areas: emotional and moral development, self-understanding, gender, and self-identity.

Based on the textbook and any additional research you find, create a PowerPoint presentation that you will share with your coworkers that includes
information and strategies to help Alex and their family. The PowerPoint will discuss the components of emotional development and selfunderstanding as well as influences on these developmental areas. Your PowerPoint will also provide supportive strategies that assist in their
journey.
Your PowerPoint presentation should use the Unit 7 Assignment Template and have 18–20 slides (not including the title and reference slides)
and should respond to the questions below.
