Imagine you are a communications manager for a City or large County school district. You may select a real city for this assignment, which might make this a lot more real. Ensure you find some good sources, these are fundamental to the rubric scoring.
You have been asked to give a presentation to high school seniors who are getting ready to vote for the first time with a scope of the presentation on critical thinking and doing research on candidates.
You will be advising students on how to use their critical thinking skills to evaluate the sources they use to learn about the election and the candidates. Candidates at the Local and State level (it is not a federal election year).
Create a 10-slide presentation that includes the following information:
Intro Slide, Table of Contents. Number the slides, link them to the Table of Contents.
Explain how media has affected elections and/or geopolitics from either the United States or anywhere around the world.
Reflect on the sources you use for information and how they may impact your beliefs (biases, etc.).
Identify how you may learn more about candidates, both online and in person. Identify 2 potential candidates – are they running uncontested, or do they have competition? As we just went through an election cycle you may use candidates from November 2025. Consider accuracy of advertisement and candidate credibility.
Discuss what you do and/or can do to ensure that you are accessing accurate and valid information.
Include at least 3 credible sources formatted according to APA guidelines.

Note 9/18: Yes, turn in speaker notes separately if all the content is not covered on your slides, please turn them in together, or do a print to PDF with your notes slides. No, you do not have to record the presentation with audio. Please do not create a class cover sheet, I can see you turned it in – instead your cover should be scoped to the scenario, the students.
