Funding for Florida School District Reflection Paper
Students will complete a reflection paper on the Florida funding for school districts. They will perform guided tasks related to school operations and finance at their selected school sites. The candidate will use course readings, current research, and articles to analyze the process of state funding for school districts.
Reflection Paper Format
Title Section: Introduction (1-2 pages)
Your introduction should include a brief statement of what research describes as effective school operations and finance practices. Research cited should be from course readings and articles researched by students.
Title Section: Guided Tasks Summary (3-4 pages)
Candidates will complete the following guided tasks:
1. Assist the Principal with the identification and correction of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Error and Warning messages utilizing the K-12 FTE Simulation Report.
2. Assist the Principal with the monitoring of attendance utilizing the Daily Attendance Bulletin to ensure that all students are present during the FTE Attendance Eligibility window (11 days).
3. Monitor the Master Schedule to ensure all positions are accounted for in the Position Control List.
4. Monitor the Master Schedule to ensure that a funding source is identified for all extra teaching period supplements.
5. Monitor the Position Control List to ensure all positions listed are accounted for in the Computer Assisted School Allocation System (CASAS) report.
6. Assist the Principal with the preparation of final budget documents in preparation for Final Budget Conferences.
After completing the various tasks as a guide, candidates will be required to compose a comprehensive summary delineating their experiences and their correlation to the content studied throughout the course. Furthermore, the summary should explicitly establish connections between the guided tasks and the central subjects covered in the course readings and discussions, particularly in relation to the school budget.
Title Section: Florida State Funding Analysis (1-2 pages)
Candidates will use their experience accomplishing the guided tasks, conducting research, engaging with class readings, and participating in discussions conduct an in-depth analysis of state funding for school districts in Florida. The discussion should provide their reflections on the implications that arise from the dynamics of this funding process and how it impacts individual school sites.
Title Section: Conclusion (1 page)
In your conclusion, summarize the main points made throughout the paper, reiterate key arguments, main take aways, and address any new questions that may arise out of the time spent completing the school operations and finance guided tasks.
