Critical Concerns CURRENT Events
We are now entering the section of this course where we delve into the critical concerns of global environmental issues. These issues (and solutions to them) are happening in real time all around the world. In weeks three, four, and five, you will dive deep into one of the critical concerns covered each week by finding a relevant current event. Current means published within two years (October 2023 or more recent). You will provide details on who, what, when, where, why, and how for the event. Your article and event must relate to Week 3 topics (Air Pollution or Farming).
For the article you choose:
1. Article Title and identify the Critical Concern (lecture) it relates to. (1 point).
2. Summary (3): Write a summary paragraph, in your own words, about the article. You cannot copy verbatim from the article. Doing so will result in a grade of “0.” Only two quotes may be used in your summary.
3.Significance (3): Write at least one paragraph discussing why you chose the article and how it is related to the topics covered this week. Think about who this event impacts and how. Think about how this event is impacting the environment. Explain why it is significant or provide your opinion about the topic.
4. Two Questions (2): Ask relevant and meaningful questions about the article. These could be questions about the findings from the article, things you did not understand, but the questions should prompt further discussion (I’ll do my best to answer them if I can!). Questions like, “What do you all think?” or “I wonder what the future holds… if the authors are correct… why did they pick this area to study?” — you get the idea, basic questions that don’t build conversation and exploration will not count.
5. Reference (2): Cite the article in APA format in your post and provide its full reference at the end (like any DB post)
