Identify the UDL strategies that currently exist in your lesson plan
For this assignment, you will review one of your own lessons and evaluate the UDL strategies that are already there. You might be surprised, as UDL really incorporates strong instructional approaches, which you already use! Then, you will list potential revisions to the lesson plan to incorporate more UDL strategies.
Create your assignment this way:
Put your selected lesson into a Word document.
Go through your lesson and using the “Comment” feature in Word, identify the UDL strategies that currently exist in your lesson plan. For example, if you give students a choice between doing a PowerPoint presentation or creating a poster, go to the “Review” tab in Word and click “New Comment,” then explain how this is a UDL principle (e.g., Giving students choices is part of Multiple Means of Action and Expression).
After you finish that, go below your lesson and indicate a minimum of 3 ways that you could revise your lesson to incorporate UDL principles. Example: In the direct instruction part of my lesson, I planned to discuss the causes of the Revolutionary War and what the effects of those were. I provided notes on the document camera for students to copy. If I were going to revise my lesson to include more UDL principles, I could provide a cause-effect graphic organizer and guided notes for students rather than having them copy notes. This aligns with the Multiple Means of Representation UDL guideline.
