We are constantly persuaded through advertisements, music, and images using the rhetorical triangle in everyday life. For this assignment, you are going to analyze television commercials. Begin by reading the article “New media ecology and theoretical foundations for nonfiction digital narrative creative process” found in the Additional Materials section of this module.
Television commercials and advertising contain some of the best demonstrations of persuasive writing. Learning to identify persuasive techniques will help you to review materials you are reading for academic purposes more critically. It will also help strengthen your writing when trying to make a point or persuade a reader with information. You will be writing for five of the seven commercials. Begin by analyzing the commercial for the use of Ethos, Pathos, Kairos, and Logos and how it impacts or is designed to impact the viewer. Also, identify any other form of rhetorical elements and how it strengthens the purpose of the commercial. Identify who the audience is for the commercial. Then evaluate whether the commercial’s author was successful.
