The part of the supply chain analytics model that I find the most interesting is the strategy phase. According to Robertson (2021), the strategy phase determines the direction and what key areas will be concentrated on while defining goals, implementation plans and creating a risk analysis. The reason why I find this phase to be the most interesting and yet the most important is due to the collaboration required during this phase. One of the main goals during this phase is to understand what are your objectives based on the problem statement that has already been defined or presented to your team. Once the objectives have been defined, then the team’s roadmap begins by creating goals (measurables), identifying key stakeholders needed to be successful, the needs and the potential outcomes of the strategy (guard metrics).
The various parts of the model are reliant on one another to be successful meaning that one can’t be removed or partially completed. In addition, a team shouldn’t skip the strategy phase and go directly into the design phase, these should be completed in order to get the most effective product or service. Also, the design allows you to go back to redefine or re-evaluate a step if the intended results are not achieved, though not recommended in some Lean projects. The SCA model provides a framework for how organizations can address key problem statements such as large parcel delivery survey scores have declined by 15% over the last quarter while order volume has decreased 7% in the same time period. This model allows leaders to make educated decisions based on data rather than assumptions of what is going on in the business.
