The data science method builds upon the foundation of the scientific method, but it is different by focusing on large datasets and iterative exploration (Google, 2025). The scientific method involves forming hypotheses and rigorously testing them (Google, 2025). Data science explores patterns/relationships within datasets without predefined hypothesis and prioritize predictive accuracy over a deep understanding of underlying mechanisms (Google, 2025). Both methods share the ability to emphasize evidence to answer questions and understand phenomena (Google, 2025). Both methods share common steps like observation, data collection, analysis, and drawing conclusions (Google, 2025). Both methods are important for a business to succeed by providing structural framework for understanding, analyzing, and making informed decisions based on data (Google, 2025). By combining the two, a business can leverage the power of data to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and achieve sustainable growth (Google, 2025). Utilizing both method can open many different opportunities for an organization to thrive and to analyze business decision-making across the entire supply chain. Being educated on the most profitable movement within the supply chain could save a company millions in unnecessary steps that have no added value. Mitigating risk and focusing on innovation/growth is what will determine the success of a firm and this is what both methods will achieve over the long-term.
