As we explore population health, it is important to view the “patient” as the group served
versus the individual. For example, the group served may be a community or a specific
population that has been identified. It could also be for all people, which would be the group
served via public health interventions. Understanding the group as the “patient” helps us to
develop a broader lens and perspective that encompasses all the elements of population
health. It also assists us as we explore the role of the nurse in population health.
Review the assigned reading for this week. For the discussion this week address the following
prompts:
1. Use the Gorski et al. (2020) document, select one of the identified action items, and
compare your current role to the suggested action items in population health.
2. Using the Gorski et al. (2020) document, select at least 2 specific actions that you can
take to impact population health in your current role.
3. Pretend that you are providing education to a local community group. Post a short video
(less than 2 minutes) to explain population health, community health, and public health
to the group.
