This assignment is meant to help you prepare for the Artist Showcase final paper, for which you will write a paper showcasing the artworks of an artist of your choice. As you work on this assignment and on your final paper, you will have the chance to learn more about a specific artist, the time period in which that artist lived, and about that artist’s work. You are free to choose an artist from a movement that we have already covered or from a movement that we have not yet covered. In addition, you are free to choose an artist that you have previously discussed in the class or to choose an artist that you have not yet discussed.

Reflect
Take some time to reflect on the movements and artworks that you’ve seen in the class and in the course materials (including your textbook) over the past couple of weeks. You can also take some time to explore artists on museum websites on the ART101 Museum and Images Websites Download ART101 Museum and Images Websitesdocument. As you consider which artist to choose, keep in mind that you will need to provide at least five artworks from that artist for your Artist Showcase final paper in Week 5, so please make sure that you can find at least five artworks from the artist of your choice.
Write
Once you have selected your artist, review any course resources that are relevant to their artwork, and then locate at least two credible sources from the UAGC Library that provide details about the artist, their art, and their life. In your paper, please write 1–2 paragraphs addressing each of the following elements:
Identify the name of your artist, the movement with which your artist is most often associated, and the region(s) or country/countries where your artist was known for creating art.
Provide a brief biography of your artist’s life, focusing on events and issues related to their artistic development and that likely affected their artwork. Please include when and where the artist lived as well as contextual elements that affected the artist’s work.
Discuss at least one work of art from your artist, including the APA-formatted reference for that work.
An artwork that you have already examined elsewhere in this class is acceptable for this assignment. (For your Artist Showcase final paper, you will need to find five works from your artist, so make sure you are able to do this before deciding which artist you will focus on.)
Briefly explain the different materials, methods, techniques, and subjects in your artist’s work.
Describe how these elements were emblematic of the movement of which your artist was a part, the region they were from, and the artist’s individual style.
Discuss at least one contextual factor that influenced the artwork that you chose.
