Academic and Professional Development Plan
At some point in every construction project, efforts turn from design and the focus moves to actual construction. With the vision in place and the tools secured, the blueprint can be finalized and approved. Then it is time to put on hardhats and begin work.
Throughout the course you have developed aspects of your Academic and Professional Development Plan. You have thought a great deal about your vision and goals, your academic and professional network of support, research strategies and other tools you will need, the integrity of your work, and the value of consulting the work of others. With your portfolio in place, it is now time to finalize your blueprint for success.
To Prepare:
- Review the scope and standards of practice or competencies related to your chosen specialty in the resources for this module.
- Review the MSN or PMC specializations offered at Walden by viewing the module resource, Walden University. (n.d.). Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
- Examine professional organizations related to the specialization you have chosen and identify at least one to focus on for this Assignment.
- Reflect on the thoughts you shared in the Discussion forum regarding your choice of a specialty, any challenges you have encountered in making this choice, and any feedback you have received from colleagues in the Discussion.
The Assignment:
Complete the following items and incorporate them into the final version of your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan.
- With the resources specific to the MSN or PMC specialization and the Walden University. (n.d.). Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or PMC, shared in this module, write a paragraph or make a Nursing Specialty Comparison table, comparing at least two nursing specialties that include your selected specialization and second-preferred specialization.
- Write a 2- to 3-paragraph justification statement identifying your reasons for choosing your MSN or PMC specialization. Incorporate feedback you received from colleagues in this Module’s Discussion forum.
- Identify the professional organization related to your chosen specialization for this Assignment, and explain how you can become an active member of this organization.
Much as builders remain cognizant of the building standards as they plan and begin construction, nurses must remain mindful of the formal standards of practice that govern their specialties. A good understanding of these standards can help ensure that your success plan includes any steps necessary to excel within your chosen specialty.
In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by developing the final component–a review of your specialty standards of practice. You will also submit your final version of the document, including Parts 1–4.

Module 2 | Part 2: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics
I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and writing, as well as the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of my academic work while a student of the MSN program or PMC, as well as my professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results of these efforts are shared below.
Directions: In the space below craft your analysis/writing sample, including Part 1 (The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity) and Part 2 (Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work).
Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity
Academic integrity and writing are fundamentally linked because it ensures the integrity and dependability of academic work. Academic integrity involves presenting authentic creation, accurately referencing sources, and preventing plagiarism, all of which are essential in building and maintaining confidence in academic work (Davis, 2023). Academic integrity is founded on values including honesty, respect, and responsibility and plays an important role in building a culture of accountability and confidence in academic work. Through such values, scholars and students foster the advancement of knowledge and respect the intellectual work of others.
Similarly, professional practices and scholarly ethics are intertwined such that professionals in all professions, including nursing, operate in an accountable and transparent manner. Ethical scholarly work ensures evidence-based practice where professionals apply rigorously researched information in real-life situations. In nursing practice, for example, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice are values that guide clinical practice and decision-making (Cheraghi et al., 2023. These values are almost identical to the scholarly ethics of precise documentation, adherence to study protocols, and evidence-based practices. Following scholarly ethics empowers nursing students to maintain professional standards and demonstrate excellence in ethics in their careers.
Grammarly and Turnitin are fundamental tools in maintaining academic integrity. Grammarly improves work clarity and grammar to avoid unintended errors likely to compromise the originality of work (Perdana et al., 2021). Turnitin helps to identify potential plagiarism incidents and encourages rewording and citing sources accordingly. Paraphrasing is a key competence that confirms comprehension and maintains the use of ideas in an ethical way by providing due credit to original authors. These tools help students develop original, well-presented work, demonstrating academic integrity.
PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
I will utilize different methods to preserve academic ethics and integrity throughout my studies as an MSN student. Time management will serve as my primary key strategy. By giving enough time to research and both writing and revision, I will prevent mistakes and maintain high quality in my academic submissions (Addis et al., 2023). APA style and guidelines of citation will serve as a regular practice throughout my work to properly reference sources while respecting intellectual property and preventing plagiarism. I will also use Grammarly and Turnitin tools to develop original content and a clear writing style in my work. Instructors, together with academic advisors, will help me understand assignment requirements and school policies as well as ensure ethical compliance of my work.
I will maintain honesty and ethical standards in my professional nursing practice by adhering to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics as my standard in making professional and ethical decisions. In addition to this, I will pursue continuing education in the shape of workshops and professional development courses to stay up to date with evolving best practices and standards of ethics (Mlambo et al., 2021). In addition to this, I will be responsible for my actions and decisions and learn from my errors as a source of growth to improve my practice. Through the use of these practices, I will uphold the utmost standards of ethics in my academic pursuits and professional life.
To support such activities, I will draw upon different resources. As a learner, I will utilize university libraries, academic writing centers, and peer reviews to enhance the quality of my work. These resources will assist me in upholding academic rigor and honesty. As a professional in my career, I will seek advice, adhere to policies in place at an institution, and actively participate in professional organizations such as the ANA. These practices will sustain my commitment to upholding the values of integrity and excellence in all my professional endeavors.

Step 2: Summary of Analysis
I employed a systematic strategy to identify and analyze peer-reviewed research using academic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Embase. Using well-defined search terms like telehealth and hypertension management, I applied Boolean operators (AND, OR) to limit the search results. I prioritized articles published in the recent decade to ensure the ease of applicability of findings to contemporary healthcare practice. After identifying potential research, I filtered them through abstracts, study methods, and relevance to professional practice. For the review, I selected the scoping review of Idris et al. (2024) as it provided a broad and detailed description of telehealth’s use in hypertension management in primary healthcare centers. The study adhered to PRISMA-ScR guidelines, ensuring a high-quality literature synthesis, and included data from various countries. This factor enhanced its applicability to diverse healthcare systems.
Two methods proved especially helpful in identifying quality peer-reviewed research. First, I employed advanced search filters, restricting results by publication date, peer review, and subject-specific indexing terms. This strategy allowed me to have access to only credible and relevant research. Second, I employed citation tracking, locating articles citing or cited by pertinent research, which identified additional research supporting my topic. These approaches increased efficiency in locating well-documented and scientifically sound studies. In addition, using a reference management tool like Mendeley allowed for the simple organization of selected articles and removing duplicates.
In my future research, I will utilize the Cochrane Library, a database of systematic reviews and evidence-based studies. As it addresses healthcare interventions, the Cochrane Library would provide comprehensive reviews on telehealth and blood pressure management (Puga & Atallah, 2020). I will also utilize Google Scholar alerts to notify me of new publications on my research topic. These databases will keep me updated with the latest studies, so my research will be evidence-based and aligned with the current innovations in healthcare.
