After reviewing The Effect of Tart Cherry Juice Compared to a Sports Drink and Cycling Exercise Performance, Substrate Metabolism, and Recovery,
Discussion 1:
Hello Everyone!
After reviewing The Effect of Tart Cherry Juice Compared to a Sports Drink and Cycling Exercise Performance, Substrate Metabolism, and Recovery, I believe the study followed APA ethical codes well, especially in Sections 3 (Human Relations) and 8 (Research and Publication).
The researchers seemed to treat participants with respect and fairness. There was no indication of discrimination or misuse of power, and the consent process appeared to be handled with transparency. This aligns with Section 3, which focuses on maintaining ethical relationships and avoiding conflicts of interest or any form of exploitation.
In terms of Section 8, the research was clearly outlined and the findings were presented honestly. The study included informed consent, which is especially important in health-related experiments. There was no sign of manipulated data or misleading claims, which helps build trust in the research.
If I were conducting research at my job, I would make sure everyone understood the purpose, procedures, and any potential risks or benefits. I would also stress that participation is completely voluntary and that there would be no consequences for choosing not to participate or withdrawing at any time. I think it’s important to give coworkers space to ask questions privately and feel fully informed and comfortable before agreeing to take part.
Discussion 2:
Hello class,
The study of the effect of tart cherry juice compared to a sport drink on cycling exercise performance… was compliant with section APA ethical codes section 3 in various ways. First of all, there were no clear signs of discrimination since the main criteria for inclusion were reasonable and relevant to the study. For example, participants must be regularly active recreational cyclists who are 18 years of age or older. Also, there were steps taken to avoid foreseeable harm through the exclusionary criteria which included that participants should have no allergies to cherries, or major past knee injuries, etc.
Section 8 of APA code of ethics was also followed by the conductors of the study because they received institutional approval prior to conducting their research and went through the proper procedure to receive informed consent from all participants.
If I was conducting research at my work, I would compile a reasonably detailed yet easily readable printed consent form with an explanation of the study which I would designate members of the research team to review with each possible study candidate verbally in case they have any questions. I would also give candidates a copy of the paperwork in case they would like to review it prior to making a decision. That copy would contain contact information for a member of the team designated to handle all phone calls pertaining to the study. Those who express that they understand the nature of the study and would like to provide their consent would then be allowed to do so and participate in the study.
