REFLECTING ON PERSONALITY TRAIT THEORIES
Think of situations that require you to describe your personality. It might be for a profile on a dating site or introducing yourself on a resume or cover letter. How you present yourself may vary according to your purpose, and the exact words you use might change, but most likely you would consider the qualities, or traits, that you want to highlight about yourself—such as fun-loving and curious or intelligent and dependable. Occasionally you may also reflect on less positive characteristics to know your strengths and weaknesses better. In all these cases, you would likely use a string of personality traits to describe yourself.
Reflecting on your own personality is a valuable exercise, but it’s also valuable to consider how others perceive you. How would your closest friends and family members describe you? Your coworkers? How did they make these determinations and do their descriptions align with your own?
For this Assignment, you compare your own description of your personality with how others describe you. You also reflect on the usefulness of self-knowledge related to personality across different areas of your life.
