his weeks discussion revolves a very important discussion, particularly due in part to the post Covid advances in technology and service-driven industries. For this discussion we will focus on technological advances, and the impact they have on the livelihood of the general population.
Initially responding to the post, many perceive this as a negative thing to have these advancements. I for one believe it is a good thing to continue to push the boundaries of technology. I can reference our societal makeup right now, as being one of the highest rated job markets in the history of our country. Despite advances in technology over the last hundred years, the job market has continued to expand, and we can back that by referencing Narrative: O’Neill (2024). Although the types of jobs and services have changed, the job market has never seen a correlation between technological advancements and the amount of jobs in the market. Despite AssimT, Inc facing the moral dilemma of job displacement, AssimT, Inc can create a model where jobs in other business units are expanded to accommodate said displacement. For instance, if I had an invention that would be lucrative, I would redeploy those workers to other business units. Naturally, as the technology grows, your sales and business groups will grow as well. I would utilize that staffing to fill sales roles, procurement roles, recruiting roles and naturally attempt to bring them into manufacturing roles like production and maintenance roles. Since truck sales will increase, the amount of shop floor roles will increase and we can utilize the displaced labor to fill those roles.
This answer is a direct connection to my personal values. As I believe in capitalism and a healthy P&L, I also believe in taking care of the folks that built my success, therefore I would emphasize utilizing the staffing as to not displace anyone. I’m a loyal person, too loyal at times, so if you have helped me and worked hard for me, I will not let you suffer. If I could not utilize you elsewhere, I would ensure your severance is an extremely friendly payout and you had resources to continue medical coverage and job placement resources.
I would treat my employees this way due in part to prior experiences. I was once a part of an organization where a a critical injury occurred. During that time, the corporate offices completely turned their backs on the site leaders who were at no fault, simply to appease the media and negative press coming down on the company. This directly conflicts with my personal values, as I believe in standing with someone when the chips are down. I left that company and promptly joined a company that matches my values.
