Now, look at the product your team is working on. Your team needs to provide a five-paragraph reflection on the application of the information in this module to your project. Respond to each of the following. Yes, at this point, some of this is speculative but what your team needs to realize is, the consumer buying process provides great insight into the planning of the marketing mix strategy, the 4 P’s.
Problem Recognition:
What are the problems that you believe your product will solve for the consumer? As you move forward with your project it is important for you to start thinking about the problems that your product will solve. This will help you in the decision-making process in several of the upcoming assignments, such as, what features need to be incorporated into the product with what potential benefits. These decisions are based upon the problem you believe the consumer is trying to solve. So, with this in mind, identify three different potential problems your product could potentially solve. Write a short paragraph explaining your thoughts.
Information Search:
What does the consumer need to know about your product to determine if it will solve their problem? Be thinking about the information they will be looking for and where they will be looking for that information.
Reflecting back on the problems you identified in part 1, provide a paragraph explaining the key information you believe your team needs to provide to the consumer. Yes, much of this is speculation at this point but it will assist you when developing not only the product but also your promotional (IMC) component.
Evaluation of Alternatives:
Okay, what are the criteria the consumer will use to determine if they should buy your product or a competitor’s product? Now, to get a little better understanding of this, think about what is important when you are purchasing a piece of clothing (such as pants or shoes)? The consumer will use criteria in a similar manner when purchasing your product. Create a list of five (5) criteria you think they would use when purchasing a product designed to solve the problem in the first stage and the information sought in the second stage. Now list the criteria and explain in a paragraph why your team believes this is the appropriate criteria to consider at this point. (Yes, this list may change as you move through the development process, but that is fine.)
Purchase Decision:
While there are different aspects that come into play here, the key thing you need to think about is “Where will they buy our product?” In a simple paragraph, identify at least two brick and mortar and two digital outlets that the customer might use to purchase your product. In that paragraph, also explain why you picked these as potential outlets/options.
Post Purchase Behavior:
Cognitive dissonance is when the customer questions if they made the correct purchase. In a paragraph discuss what might cause the customer to suffer from cognitive dissonance. Also in that paragraph, briefly discuss the desired post purchase behavior if the product is successful.
