For this Assignment, you continue your exploration of human development and socialization by examining your own formative, or shaping, influences. As mentioned in the Skill Builder Activity, even when you are discussing your own experiences, you are still expected to support your analysis with references to the Learning Resources. This allows you to use theories and evidence from cross-cultural psychology to explain and compare your experiences from a scientific perspective.
Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider the following: Your formative influences and how they have impacted you. As you read Chapter 11, consider how topics like locus of control, national character, sex/gender, gender roles, sexual orientation, religious identity, and body image apply to your own development and sense of self.

Erikson’s stages of social development and how this theory may have impacted your view of struggle, success, and identity. Take the “Locus of Control and Attributional Style Test” and consider your results. Next, think about your locus of control and how it came to be. Were you born with a certain locus of control, or was it learned? Take the “Project Implicit Social Attitudes” test. There are several different tests, and you may be interested in many of them, but for this assignment focus on the tests related to gender and sexuality. Based on your results, think about the impact of culture on your views of sex and gender roles.
Review the Writing Center resources to understand APA style and the overall expectations of scholarly writing at Walden. Use the “Undergraduate Paper with Advice APA 7” course template for this Assignment.
Submit a 2-page paper in which you do the following:
Think back over the work you have done in this course so far, starting with Week 1 and the systems in which you are embedded and moving forward to this week’s work. Considering all this, provide an explanation of the degree to which you feel culture has made you into the person you are. Describe which cultural aspect(s) (e.g., religion, cultural identity, sexual orientation, or any other aspects) have had the biggest influence on your identity. Explain how Erikson’s stages of social development have impacted your view of struggle, success, and identity. Provide an example. Explain your locus of control and how it came to be. Explain how cultural views of sex or gender roles have influenced who you are.
Support the responses within your assignment with credited evidence from the assigned learning resources (including sentence-level citations). Provide a reference list in APA Style for resources you used in the assignment.
