In response to a disaster, NGOs can be valuable in providing basic needs, food, clothing, healthcare, clean-up, long-term recovery support, etc. Explain the pros and cons of NGO assistance. What ways do NGOs contribute to the successful recovery? Are there ways that NGO assistance can be harmful during recovery? How does the length of time NGOs commit to a disaster or crisis response impact your responses to these questions?

3) It has been suggested that sometimes it is more difficult to work with nongovernmental actors and that they “get in the way.” Others suggest that nongovernmental responders are faster, less bureaucratic, and more committed.
