Describe at least three major ideas/concepts in the work of Durkheim
Durkheim is one of the major social theorists who wrote about wide-ranging topics.
A – Fully describe at least three major ideas/concepts in the work of Durkheim. Your post must include information from at least two of the articles written by Durkheim rather than just the commentary provided by Garner and Hancock (textbook authors). The writings by the theorists are always labeled “Readings” (such as “Reading 3.1.1: The Rules of Sociological Method (1895)”).
B – Apply them to the issue of crime to support your assessment of whether the work of Durkheim is useful in understanding crime in modern America. Present specific evidence to support whatever position you take.
Label each section.
In writing section A of this assignment, information on the theorist (Durkheim for this week’s assignment) must be presented from only the textbook to support this part of the analysis, not any other sources.
In section B, in addition to information from the textbook, you must also use information on crime in modern America from at least two outside sources. The outside sources can be but need not be from academic sources. They must, however, be credible sources. Someone’s blog rantings or an opinion article would not be an appropriate source.
