Communication is one of the most important aspects of marriage that could determine its

longevity. Findings suggested that communication exhibited some degree of predictability to

marital satisfaction, and as mentioned, earlier studies have revealed that 70 percent of marital

communication predicts the level of marital satisfaction (Khezri, Hassan, & Nordin, 2020). This

portrays the importance of people’s interaction and responsibility to express themselves so that

there won’t be any conflict arising due to misconceptions.

Relating to Personal Experience

In my life, communication has played a vital role in my interpersonal relationships, for

instance, with my wife (Samadi et al., 2021). We have prescribed the practice of sharing our

concerns and not expressing ourselves judgmentally, thus assisting in preventing the escalation

of conflicts; it further cements the notion that communication is the key to building trust and

emotional bonds in a romantic relationship. As stated by Walker et al. (2024), the outcomes of

controlling relationship conflicts are detected to have fewer conflicts and a high level of marriage

satisfaction by couples with efficient active listening practices and unambiguous angry

expressions (Walker et al., 2024). I have noticed this more because frequent communication has

helped us appreciate each other’s opinions.

Impact of Research on Understanding

Studying communication in marriage has helped me understand the critical impact that

emotional validation assertively has in a marriage. I now know that it is not all about speaking

but also about ensuring the other person comprehends what you are trying to say. I have applied

this to engaging my spouse in discussions, making them more deliberate and courteous.

Therefore, I hope this shows that communication is necessary to build up the bond we have

today.
