The goal of this assignment is to write a college-level essay.
In modules 2.4 and 2.5, you wrote two paragraphs on one topic. Now, you will use the two paragraphs of your choosing to write an essay. You will take paragraphs you previously wrote and use them as body paragraphs in an essay.
Please follow the steps below.
1) Decide which two paragraphs ON THE SAME topic that you want to use for this essay assignment. For example, you may have written two paragraphs about irritating things or two paragraphs about toys that teach valuable lessons. Review what you wrote for 2.3 and 2.4 and choose two paragraphs on the same topic. This topic will become the topic for your 3.3 essay. Please note: you must use a previous topic and paragraphs from 2.4 and/or 2.5. You may not choose a new topic and/or write new paragraphs; if you do, you may lose up to full credit on the assignment.
2) Next, write an introduction of about 150 words that ends with the thesis sentence for the paragraphs you have chosen to use. This thesis must be broad enough to address issues in both the paragraphs, and each paragraph’s topic sentence must provide direct support for the thesis sentence.
3) Next, write a conclusion. Think of your essay as a complete unit. If your introduction provides the beginning of an anecdote, perhaps the conclusion can complete the anecdote. If the introduction asks a series of questions, the conclusion can provide answers.
4) Consider the order of your body paragraphs; if your paragraphs use the illustration rhetorical strategy, you’ll probably want to organize emphatically, moving from the less important point to the more important point.
5) Add transitions to your body paragraphs.
Things to remember:
You must decide how your essay will be organized. If you write an illustration paper, you may want to organize it emphatically. A narration paper should be chronologically organized.
Review the different types of introductions to determine what works best for the two paragraphs you’re working with.
The topic sentences of the two paragraphs should provide support for the thesis.
