This geometry is determined by considering the number of electron charge clouds or electron groups around the central atom in a molecule; they can be either nonbonding pairs of electrons or single, double, or triple bonding pairs of electrons. According to this model, electron charge clouds around the central atom try to stay as far apart from each other as possible due to electrostatic repulsions. Procedures: 1) Draw Electron dot structures for the following compounds (Column 2). 2) Predict the number of bonding (Column 3), lone pairs group (Column 4) around central atom and molecular shape (Column 6). 3) Click on the link below to simulate these compounds and attach pictures of simulated molecules (Column 5). https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/molecule-shapes/latest/molecule-shapes_en.html Click on Model, then select Molecule Geometry on the bottom left and Simulate Molecule CO2 CH2O O3 CH4 NH3 H2O Lewis Structure # bonding group on central atom # lone pairs on central atom Attach a picture of simulation Molecular Shape
