Brainstorming Persuasive Speech Topics and Analysis

Document 1:

Consider what we learned in Module 6 about effective presentation preparation, strong presentation structure and organization, and the three modes of persuasion: ethos, pathos, and logos. Review our Module 6 readings, videos, and lessons as needed to help you brainstorm ideas for your upcoming persuasive speech.

For this discussion, you will submit two (2) fully developed persuasive speech ideas. You should spend time doing some preliminary research on both ideas to make sure either one would work well for the persuasive speech assignment.

Address all of the following for two (2) persuasive speech ideas:

Topic Idea: What is the topic?
Persuasive Argument: What argument could you make about this topic? Your argument should be clearly defined in one sentence.
Audience Analysis: Why should the audience care about this topic?
Audience Analysis: Why should your audience trust your argument on this topic?
Ethos: What is your personal experience with the topic idea?
Ethos: How are you qualified to present this information to your audience?
Logos: After conducting preliminary research on this topic, share three potential sources of information you could use in your presentation.
Title, author, date, and URL (if using a web source) for all three sources.
A brief one-paragraph summary of your source, including how the source supports your presentation’s persuasive argument.
Pathos: What are one to two potential stories you could share in your persuasive speech? These could be personal stories or stories from others.
Document 2:

You can select a persuasive presentation on any topic as long as the talk was delivered on the TED or TEDx stage.

Watch your chosen TED Talk as many times as you need, taking notes as needed.

In your initial post for this module, address all of the following:

Share the title and presenter of your chosen TED Talk.
Share a link to your chosen TED Talk, so we can watch the presentation.
Identify examples of the ethos, pathos, and logos employed in the TED Talk. How does the presenter use the ethical appeal? The emotional appeal? The logical appeal?
Using vocabulary from our course, what are the three elements of the presentation that worked best?
Using vocabulary from our course, what are three elements of the presentation that could be improved upon?
