The Implementation of An Assemble to Order Technique

Question #1
When a firm is able to move to an assemble-to-order capability from a make-to-stock approach, there can be a substantial reduction in the number of things that must be tracked and stored. For example, the Amelia Island Computer Shop decided to stop stocking assembled computers and moved to an assemble-to-order approach. Amelia Island even invited customers to the work area to see their computers being assembled, a great customer relations ploy. The company estimates that there are seven disk choices, five motherboards (including the processor), four memory alternatives, three operating systems, and four other options.

Discuss in full detail what the total number of potential finished products would be, as well as how the cost of the item affects the forecast. For example: If it costs $15 per item to make a forecast each week, what is the weekly savings from forecasting just the components and options as compared to the potential number of finished products?

Question #2
Selecting the right supplier should include more aspects than a “good quoted price.” Identify at least two other aspects commonly used in selecting a supplier. Explain why each aspect is important and significant in selecting the right supplier.

In order to create a collaborative environment, buyers and suppliers must have an open approach to communication. Select one of the two primary dimensions of trust discussed in Module 2, and describe at least three trust building activities that can be used to help build trust. Explain the reasoning behind your selection.
