Which aspects of pseudoscience do you recognize in the claims made in your chosen article? Are there any signs of scientific support of the claims being made? Find at least two references that are peer-reviewed scholarly articles and cite them using APA format. Your discussion should be at least 200 words, and you should include two comments to your classmates (at least 100 words).
Before you get started, please review the scientific method tutorial available here: Scientific Method Tutorial., especially the section on “The Limits of Science” (button 6).
Here is a summary table that will help you differentiate between science and pseudoscience:
SCIENCE
PSEUDOSCIENCE*
It is always testable.
Proposes untestable premises.
It always includes scientific evidence.
Pseudoscience uses weak evidence to make broad conclusions.
Conclusions are based on data and drawn from repeated experimentation.
May include claims that it is at a higher level than science, therefore repeatable experiments are not required.
Hypotheses and theories can be edited or removed based on new scientific evidence.
Information is usually inconsistent with current scientific knowledge.
Science studies only what is observable in the natural world.
Pseudoscience may include elements of the supernatural. It can be stated as being part of a belief that is not testable.
Science cannot make statements about good or bad, right, or wrong. However, science is ethical.
Pseudoscience will often use language and statements that sound like science.
Claims can be vague. Truth can be based on the arguments of a person of authority.
*Pseudoscience (“false science”) has been defined as a collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on the scientific method (adapted from Lexico: https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/pseudoscience)
