Astronomy Importance of Science Literacy for Society

Leverage a generative AI chatbot tool to investigate the importance of science literacy. While a few chatbots are available, I suggest using either Microsoft’s Bing Chat (free) or the free version of ChatGPT. Experience has shown that ChatGPT tends to do a more thorough job than Bing, but as of this writing, ChatGPT has only been trained using information up to Fall 2021.

For information about getting started with these chatbots, go here.

Procedure
Have the chatbot give responses to the following prompts one at a time. Additional follow-up prompts can also be included at any point (e.g., between the listed items or at the end).

What is meant by science literacy, and why is science literacy important for society?
Give two examples of global issues or problems where having a science-literate society crucial.
I like…(fill in something reasonably specific that interests you). How is science literacy helpful for…(your chosen subject of interest)? (You might consider challenging the chatbot and using a subject of interest that isn’t so obviously related to science literacy, such as photography, playing guitar, interior design, welding, fishing, etc.)
