Stressors and Anxiety
Answer to this post:
Stressors are the ideas, emotions, and actions that make someone feel anxious about a certain situation. They elicit a physical response from the body in response to a circumstance, feeling, or thought, which frequently degrades one’s sense of wellbeing. Teenagers manage a variety of stressors on their own. Children suffer greatly because they are less able than adults to cope with these stressors. Negative effects including anxiety, depression, and even physical sickness may result from this (McInroy et al., 2022).
Teenagers face two stressors: bullying and major life events like parent separation or divorce. Bullying is an aggressive, purposefully repeated action involving an imbalance of power. Bullies are now commonly anonymous thanks to social media, a practice known as “cyberbullying.” Bullying of any kind can lead to sadness and suicide. When a parent splits or divorces, an adolescent goes through a lot of stress. They usually sustain the most damage. They are going through such a profound transformation in their life, and most of them have no idea how serious things really are (Hamid & Daulima, 2019).
It is natural that these young adults start to participate in dangerous behaviors including taking harmful substances, having improper sex, skipping class, and attending unsafe parties because these external pressures have a substantial detrimental impact on their mental health. However, by giving them various coping mechanisms that will help them manage their stress, these external stressors can be managed. Parents or other caregivers can offer help by being receptive to the teens’ needs and fostering trust. Parents who are divorcing can employ a therapist to assist the teen in comprehending the situation and coping with their emotions. Other coping mechanisms, like as exercising, painting, listening to music, eating healthy, and sleeping on a regular schedule, might be taught to the adolescent (McInroy et al., 2022).
