Rate of Pregnancy Among Adolescents

Adolescent pregnancy is closely associated with the risk factor of socioeconomic and education (Grand Canyon University, 2022). These adolescents make poor decisions based on their developing brains and risk-taking behaviors. The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) provides many resources to help teen parents. They assist these young parents in attending a Parenting Youth (EPY) Conference to discuss issues related to pregnancy. DCFS contact phone number is (800) 540-4000. El Nido Family Centers provide trained case managers reaching out to teens who feel unprepared for parenting. In California, the teen birth rate is 9.9 for every 1,000 births 15-19 years of age (CDC, 2023). In the Los Angeles County, there are 15 teen births for every 1,000 births in the county (KidsData, 2023). Possible reasons would be expanded education for adolescents in school, parents talking to their children regarding the risks and ways to prevent teen pregnancy, and more openness regarding these topics in schools.
