Mentoring Program Outline – 60 points This assignment is designed to help you explore the critical components associated with a mentoring program. You can use your current organization or an organization with which you are familiar. You are to create a professional proposal for the organization you choose. You are welcome to surf the internet to find ideas/examples/suggestions for mentoring programs. With each section of the proposal, you need to provide a rationale to support your recommendation. Throughout this proposal, you need to provide support from a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed journals. You can find articles or use some that I have provided in the course. Introduction/Background to/of “YOUR ORGANIZATION” and the reason why you are proposing a mentoring program. This is where you share a bit about the organization, its culture, and how it stands to benefit from implementing a mentoring program. What is the organization’s current situation and how might it stand to benefit? Purpose/Goals Describe what you hope the mentoring program will accomplish. Program Format Will your program be formal or informal? Why? Based on what information? Will your program be one-on-one or provided in a group format? Roles / Expectation What qualifies someone to be a mentor? Experience, expertise in core leadership skills, nature of the job, roles, responsibilities, geographical location? What qualifies someone as a mentee? Entry-level employee, eagerness to grow, coachable, positive attitude, labeled as a high potential employee, etc. Will there be an internal champion/coordinator of the mentoring program initiative? How will the mentors and mentees be determined? Will there be an application process? How will decisions about mentors and mentees be made? What is the rationale for your decision? Development Will training be provided? If so, what will it cover, i.e., learning outcomes? Will there be personality assessments, a pre-test of sorts? What is the rationale for your decision? What are the expectations associated with both roles? Is there a formal agreement/contract both parties sign? Duration How long will the mentoring last? Evaluation How will you measure the success of the program? Grading System 30 points – 3 peer-reviewed articles supporting the suggested approach and clearly articulated rationale. 20 points – well-thought-out approach throughout the proposal 10 points – professionalism of the proposal – formatting, spelling, grammar, APA citations
