Interview should be conducted with those who know the individual well and interact with him/her in a variety of settings and situations (e.g. parents, care-givers, friends, support providers). In order to get useful information from the interview, questions may need to be repeated and clarified for some respondents. Probing should be done to encourage thoughtful, open communication in a nonjudgmental, unhurried way.

6. What do you think causes (motivates) the behavior (i.e. why does the individual do it)?

9. Do you think there are medical reasons for these behaviors? Is the individual is sick, tired, or hungry?

11. Does the individual have better and more appropriate ways to deal with difficult situations and more appropriate ways to communicate wants and needs? If so, describe them?
12. What skills does this individual lack that might help his or her behavior?
13. How do you react or respond to the individual’s behavior that is considered to be a problem and how do you react or respond to the individual’s positive behavior?
14. Does the individual’s behavior allow him or her to get things? If so, what?
15. Does the individual’s behavior allow her or him to avoid things? If so, what?
16. What do you think needs to be done to better support this individual with their behavior?

Looking at all of the data you collected in the Record Review, Interview, ABC Recording Form, and Scatter Plot answer the following questions.
1. What did you find in reviewing the person’s history that may have an impact on their behavior?
2. What important information were you able to obtain by completing the interview?
3. What did you learn about the person’s behavior by completing the ABC Recording Form? What were the antecedents and consequences?
4. Was there any noticeable pattern when looking at your completed scatter plot? Did the behavior consistently occur during a particular time, day, or activity?
5. Overall, what is your reaction to the data collection process? Were you able to gain useful information? Was it difficult to collect data? Are there things that might have effected your data collection? What would allow you to collect data more efficiently?
