Reviewing Elements of Labor Unions as a Whole
Now, it is all up to you to bring it together. So far, you have touched on singular union topics. However, you must be able to bring each individual element together as a whole. Analyzing case studies is a great way to help you understand all the various elements of labor unions because labor unions are complex. Use everything you have learned in this course to determine how to bring union elements together in a singular case study.
This week, you will bring all the information full circle, from analyzing various laws to reviewing HR’s role. You learned that all elements of a labor union have a specific purpose, and each is just as important as the others. How does all of what you have learned connect to analyze a case study? You can use history to analyze how the specific case you have chosen has progressed over time. Also, consider examining what union laws make the case relevant or support the facts of the case. You can even determine what role bargaining played in the outcome of the case you chose.
Now, you will share this process with your professor. As you begin this week’s work, be sure to revisit all your professor’s feedback so far in the course. It is expected that prior feedback is applied to components you include in this assignment.

Week 7 – Signature Assignment: Analyze a Case Study
For your Signature Assignment, you will analyze a case study by examining the elements of a labor union discussed in this course.
In a paper, take everything you have learned about labor relations to analyze one case involving labor unions. You are not limited to those already in a union. You can also explore organizations that have tried and failed to unionize. You will choose a case study that interests you most. You may use one from this course or find your own. If you do choose to find your own, you can research the NCU library or various union websites, such as the Autoworkers Union or the Teachers Union.
In your paper, be sure to explain in detail the case and the importance of each element of the case study, such as laws, roles, etc.
Be sure to include the following in your analysis:
• Assess how the union in your case study is organized and governed, if applicable. If your case involves an organization that is not unionized, determine if issues surrounding organization and governance led to failing to unionize.
• Review the attitudes and beliefs of key stakeholders and how these influenced the unionizing process.
• From an HR perspective, explore the benefits and challenges in working within this specific organizational environment.
• Evaluate how people, in this case, proceeded with bargaining and if their processes affected negotiation outcomes. Provide recommendations where appropriate.
• Conclude with any other important facts surrounding this case. You may include charts, graphics, and any other visuals to support your analysis.
